What changes when you rent an entry set instead of buying one
What an entry set contains, and what each part does, is set out on confined space equipment. Renting the same equipment changes three things.
- The period. A rental is quoted against the dates of the entry, so the enquiry needs the start date and the end date as well as the equipment.
- Who arranges the inspection. Bought equipment stays on your own inspection register between entries, and that check is yours to arrange.
- What you report. Anything that was damaged, or that arrested a fall, is reported to TopBorneo, because it goes out of service immediately.

Why an entry set is rented rather than bought
A shutdown puts more crews into more confined spaces in the same weeks. The equipment you hold for normal running is sized for normal running. A shutdown then leaves you either short of sets, or holding equipment that stands still for the rest of the year.
A tripod, a winch and a harness that stood in a store between entries still have to be checked before the next entry.
The gas test is part of the entry, not a separate job
Malaysia's Industry Code of Practice for Safe Working in a Confined Space 2010 requires an Authorised Gas Tester and Entry Supervisor. That person does the gas testing and supervises the entry, and needs a detector that is in calibration. TopBorneo supplies and calibrates the detector that person uses. Harnesses and lifting gear need inspection
There is no single inspection interval in Malaysian law that covers every harness. What applies is the manufacturer's instruction and your own procedure, and heavy use, heat, chemicals or abrasion are reasons to shorten it rather than to stretch it. A harness that has arrested a fall goes out of service immediately.
