What offshore and marine work does to a harness
Sea air, heat and sun age fall protection equipment faster than a manual assumes. That is why an inspection looks at more than the webbing.

An item with an unreadable label cannot be judged, because nobody can prove which criteria apply to it. On a salt water site that label goes first, so photograph it while it is still legible.
A harness that has arrested a fall goes out of service immediately, however clean it looks.
What sets the interval for your equipment

- The manufacturer's manual for that model.
- EN 365 and ANSI Z359.2, which both put a floor of twelve months under it, by a competent person.
- How heavily the equipment is used, and what it hangs in.
- Your own procedure and the contract of the operator you work for, which offshore is often the strictest of the four.

What comes back in writing
Per item you get the outcome: it stays in service, it needs a part replaced, or it comes out of use. Items that fail are reported to you with a quotation for replacement, and nothing is replaced before you agree to it. Keep that outcome with the permit file for the job.
