Gas testing before anyone goes in
Malaysia's Industry Code of Practice for Safe Working in a Confined Space 2010 requires an Authorised Gas Tester and Entry Supervisor to do the gas testing and supervise the entry. MSA recommends a bump test before each day's use and calibration at a maximum interval of six months for detectors with standard XCell sensors. Common questions
Which safety equipment does an offshore crew in Malaysia need most often?
Portable gas detection comes first, because no confined space or hot work permit moves without a gas test. After that come SCBA and escape sets, fall protection for deck and mast work, and helmets with a chin strap. TopBorneo supplies these from Labuan and Kota Kinabalu.
Who is allowed to do the gas testing?
The employer appoints an Authorised Gas Tester and Entry Supervisor, or AGTES, under Malaysia's Industry Code of Practice for Safe Working in a Confined Space 2010. TopBorneo supplies and calibrates the detector that person uses. The permit file gets the dated certificate with it.
Can gas detectors be calibrated in Malaysia?
